I had some correspondence with a Californian angler. He came to NZ for 2 weeks but did not buy any of my books. On returning home, he sent me a sorry tale of how he failed to catch a single fish in New Zealand. The guy had a bad run of weather and did not know the fishing alternatives that there are when other rivers are flooded. There are heaps of lakes, tarns, tailwaters, reservoirs - all these are perfect to fish when the rivers are dirty or in flood. My books list many of such waters and how to fish them.

This guy also listed the rivers he had fished. Acouple of them, I know to be fishless, a couple I had never heard of so they were not good fishing waters and a couple more were two of the toughest fishing waters in NZ! Rivers even I would think twice about fishing because the fish are so spooky that expert presentations are essential.

If this guy had only forked out a few dollars for just one of my books, he would never have gone home from two weeks in New Zealand without catching a fish.
